Extended Stay America - San Diego - Carlsbad Village by the Sea

"I'm staying at this hotel with my wife and we're having several problems, we even had to pay to unclog the bathtub! They don't clean and when they did it once, they changed the towels and made the bed. And to make matters worse, they canceled my second reservation, because my wife complained here, our apartment wasn't ready until the 25th and would stay until the 11th, as I had already discussed and everything was fine. Today, after they saw that we complained here, they said that we cannot continue after the 25th, because we had not yet paid until the 11th of March. Absurd!!! Now what are you going to say? Are they going to apologize and not do anything? I have to pay to pack things and I still have to leave early because we complain? So give me my money back!"

"Firstly, I only put one star because it doesn't let me put zero. I had a reservation and I was deeply disappointed by what I saw. I could't even stay one night because of the filth, creepy guy going in my room while I was changing (LIKE WHAT THE HELL?) and the disgusting smell of weed. Not to mentions the receptionist was hostile and the everything was dirty. They did not make me feel welcome at all. I felt uncomfortable, scare for my safety and grossed out. At last, I asked for a refund and still haven't gotten it till this day. Waiting for a proper response. I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND. HORRIBLE STAY. DIDN'T EVEN STAY 2 HOURS."

"Booked a 2 day, 1 night room for myself and my 3 kids. Was severely disappointed to find out that the "included breakfast" was just a simple packet of oatmeal and a granola bar. The room was tiny, the sink looked dirty. There was no ice machine, no dishes (its an extended stay, expected more of a homey feeling), no shampoo or body wash samples that are usually in hotels. Will not be coming back here. Service was below par. There was never anyone at the counter to help. Smelled like cigarettes and people smoking marijuana and who knows what else in the hallways. For the price, I would rather stay at a budget inn or motel 6. I will not be coming to this location at all. I have been to other extended stays and this one is by far the worst one out of them all."

"Booked this room for two nights. When I checked in around 10pm I got to the room and there was no TV remote. I like the background noise when I sleep so this was really a pain. When I left for work the following morning around 4am I used the stairs from the 3rd floor and as I round the corner there was a man sleeping on the stairs well that startled me! I was genuinely scared for my safety. When I came back to the hotel at 10pm after a 16 hour shift I asked for a a TV remote from the front desk then headed up to the room. When I got up to my room my key did not work. I was told this is a common occurrence. I went back down stairs to get new keys which did work. The next morning I got up early and went to the gym, came back to the hotel around 6:50am and wanted to get some coffee and it was empty and no one around. Very frustrating when all the breakfast consists of is coffee and grab and go breakfast. THEN I called the front desk around 9am to ask for an extended check out. Was told they could extend to noon for free. Great, needed more sleep after a long day of work. Housekeeping kept trying to come into the room multiple times! Even opening the door! I then got a call from the front desk around 11:30 asking when I was going to check out. Really frustrating when I had specifically called to get an extended check to get some sleep. A very frustrating stay at this hotel. Gave the service a 3 because the lady at the front desk at night was trying to be helpful."

"The room is clean and comfortable and the staff is great. Then one day I tried to cook a hamburger in a pan on the range. I turned on the exhaust fan before I started cooking knowing that there would be smoke. When the smoke from the meat rose into the exhaust fan, the fan blew the smoke directly out the front of the range hood into my face. The smoke quickly filled the room and triggered the smoke alarm. The shift manager came running to my room and pounded on the door. I opened the door and yelled over the blaring smoke detector “The exhaust fan doesn’t work!” I ended up propping my room’s door open and opening the room’s window. After a couple of minutes, the alarm finally went silent. I asked the manager why the fan didn’t work and how soon it could be fixed. She explained that none of the exhaust fans in the rooms blow to the outside, that they all just blow the smoke back out into the room. I couldn’t believe my ears! Why do your exhaust fans blow the smoke back into your guest’s face? The word “exhaust” literally means to remove a waste gas from its current location. Your exhaust fan not only does not “exhaust” the smoke from the range top as it’s supposed to, but it blows it back into the room to set off the very loud and obnoxious smoke alarm that greatly disturbs management and other guests for several minutes. And the worst part is your exhaust fans were purposely built that way! This is beyond stupid! This is a special kind of stupidity that exceeds description! Whoever designed your exhaust fans and signed off on them on this hotel’s blueprints needs to be fired! Of course, I’m NEVER staying here ever again and I’ll tell everyone I know not to stay here. When they ask me why I’ll say “Because they PURPOSELY DESIGNED the range’s exhaust fan to blow the smoke back into your face and it sets off the very loud and obnoxious smoke alarm!” They’ll reply “But isn’t the name of the hotel ‘Extended Stay’ because they have a kitchen that they fully expect their guests to use during their extended stay? So why would they purposely design their range hoods to do that?” All I’ll be able to say is “Beats the hell out of me! They’re idiots!”"
