Capital Pediatric Cardiology Associates

"Suspicious business practices from the get go. My child was referred here and before the appointment I was contacted and asked to pay $500 up front. But wait…. I have good insurance. I asked why and was told that I need to pay the deductible but after researching, I knew that I only needed to pay a $40 copay. I told the person on the phone that I didn’t have $500 and she asked me if I’d like to cancel my child’s appointment. Um, no because I need her to see a cardiologist! So then I was asked if I could pay $250 instead and I begrudgingly did so we didn’t lose the appointment. The day of the appointment comes along and I asked for a cost estimate like most medical providers do. I was told that that was not available. I asked if an EKG was necessary since we just had one and I wanted to save money. The doctor said no so I talked to 3 different staff and I was told that we would not be charged for an EKG. Well guess what? They billed my insurance for an EKG. I called and ask for the claim to be adjusted. They did do some investigation and owned that it was their error. I was also told that I’d get my account statement in a month. After 5 weeks I called and low and behold, I overpaid all but my $40 copay. So I’m now awaiting my refund but why did I have to call and advocate so much? What medical provider asks for hundreds of dollars up front without telling you what they are charging for? Just be careful and ask questions."

The staff listened to this frightened mom and got us in in a week. He had the most genuine bedside manners. He really took time to explain (drew out a heart diagram and wrote down all names and #s) and answered all our questions. Due to the rarity of my daughter's disorder and complexity of care, he encouraged us to also consult an expert (who specializes in her condition) outside his practice and he himself never hesitated to reach out to him for us. A snobby dr would not do that! Prior to my daughter's ENT procedures last summer, we emailed back and forth to discuss her anesthesia risks. Never once he brushed off my concern. He made sure all the surgical team know about her case and that she would be in best hands. I cannot appreciate enough. Thank you, Dr. Hill!"
