Muir Woods Visitor Center
1 Muir Woods Road, Mill Valley, CA 94941
About the Business

Located at 1 Muir Woods Road in Mill Valley, California, the Muir Woods Visitor Center is a travel agency that allows visitors to walk among old growth coast redwoods. These majestic trees cool their roots in the fresh water of Redwood Creek and reach their crowns towards the sun and fog. Federally protected as a National Monument since 1908, this primeval forest serves as both a refuge and a laboratory, showcasing our connection with the natural world.
The center offers information on Redwood Renewal, a series of projects aimed at preserving and maintaining the health of Muir Woods for future generations. In 2023, experts reengineered parts of Redwood Creek to restore critical coho salmon habitat, demonstrating the ongoing efforts to protect the environment.
Visitors of all ages, starting from 4 years old, can become Muir Woods Jr. Rangers and actively participate in the park's planning efforts. The National Park Service encourages everyone to engage with the park and learn more about its rich ecosystem.
For those looking to explore other national parks, the center provides access to Golden Gate and over 420 other National Parks through a downloadable app. Additionally, videos in American Sign Language are available on the website for accessibility.
For more information, visitors can contact the Muir Woods National Monument at 415-561-2850. In case of emergency, the United States Park Police can be reached at 415-561-5656, while non-emergency inquiries can be made at 415-561-5505. Experience the beauty and wonder of Muir Woods and discover the magic of this ancient forest.

"Such a magical place! Visited in April 2023. It is sad that nature is left only in hands of wealthy people who decides to do some good, but still. Like on another planet, time stops there...easy to find, booked a parking lot , bought tickets at a gate. I would go again for sure!"
"So so beautiful and peaceful, definitely worth the trip. We rented a car because there’s no service so while you can rideshare there, you can’t get one back. If you want to ride share, it is possible to schedule a pickup. You need to reserve a parking spot in advance. Would recommend going in the morning on a weekday if possible, we got there around 9 and were able to beat the tour buses."
"Loved it was an easy close to San Francisco option to see some redwoods while on my road trip with very little time to spare for things like this! If you’re trying to beat the crowds be there when they open I got there parked and got in at 8:05 and the whole walk I saw about 5 people total and got lots of pictures without anyone in them. An hour or so later I’m back at the entrance done and there were hundreds of people for sure worth waking up to go. P.S. put some money aside for the gift shop there were lots of cool stuff in there."
"My wife and I were traveling from San Francisco to Sacramento and decided to stop off for a visit to Muir Woods. We reserved parking and purchased tickets online (luckily there were slots for 4:00 at 2:00 pm). It was pretty easy to navigate on my phone. The stop on our way was incredibly worth it. The experience was breathtaking for easterners who have never hugged a redwood before. Very humbling and inspiring. Staff was helpful, visitors were kind and respectful. It was a great experience on so many levels. Recommended. Main trail appears accessible for wheelchairs and strollers."
