About the Business

Muir Woods National Monument

Muir Woods National Monument, located in Mill Valley, California, is a park and tourist attraction where visitors can walk among old growth coast redwoods. These majestic trees cool their roots in the fresh water of Redwood Creek and reach their crowns towards the sun and fog. Protected as a National Monument since 1908, this primeval forest serves as both a refuge and a laboratory, showcasing our connection to the natural world. Visitors can explore the Redwood Renewal projects aimed at preserving and maintaining the health of Muir Woods for future generations. In 2023, experts reengineered parts of Redwood Creek to restore critical coho salmon habitat. Families with children ages 4 and up can participate in the Muir Woods Jr. Ranger program. The National Park Service encourages visitors to get involved in the planning efforts for the park and provides access to information about all 420 National Parks, including Muir Woods, through the Golden Gate app. Visitors can also watch videos in American Sign Language on the park's website. Come discover the beauty and significance of Muir Woods National Monument!

"Muir Woods National Monument, with its towering coastal redwoods, offers a mystical hiking experience. Trails range from the easy, family-friendly Main Trail Loop to the more rigorous Dipsea and Ben Johnson trails, each winding through ancient forests where sunlight dances through the mist. The serenity of the woods is best enjoyed in the early morning, when fewer people are on the trails, allowing for a tranquil communion with nature's majesty. Arriving early ensures a peaceful exploration of this verdant haven, where the only sounds are the soft whispers of the forest and the gentle flow of Redwood Creek."

"You will feel closer to heaven here. Such a majestic place. The park is so well kept. They seem to be busy working on fixes and regular maintenance that needs attention. It might mean a part of a trail is out, but don’t worry, the staff can fill you in before you head out on your adventures."

"Beautiful landscapes and redwoods. It’s a bit expensive of a fare to get in (~40$ for 2 adults on the weekend) but good to know it’s going towards meaningful use. Rangers are all friendly and they even had some stops where rangers were explaining historical context. Trails aren’t too difficult at all, very flat friendly."

"Visiting this place for the first time. A very calm and serene experience. I would suggest to book the parking ahead of time as this place has limited parking slots. This place is kids friendly. The difficulty level for the trail is easy and can be completed within 3 hours. The visitor center has cute souvenir shop and a cafe. A must visit place when you’re in and around San Francisco"

"Gorgeous and peaceful place. I went at 8 am. on a weekday and had the place mostly to myself for a little bit. These beautiful and amazing trees are so captivating. Parking reservations are required, and I got the 3rd spot closest to the visitor center. There's an entrance fee for the park itself too, but I used my annual national park pass."
