Originally a two-year program, it transitioned to a four-year training program in 1988 and now matches between 10-12 residents per year. Highland Hospital, where the program is based, has been serving the community since 1927 with a mission to provide quality healthcare to all residents regardless of their ability to pay. As part of the Alameda Health System, Highland Hospital is one of three inpatient facilities in the area and serves as the only level 1 trauma center for the East Bay.
