Built by San Francisco in the Beaux Arts style, the temple features fluted columns and Corinthian capitals designed by architect William Merchant. The temple celebrates the arrival of clean, secure drinking water to the city on October 28, 1934, after 24 years of construction and a cost of $102 million. Visitors can admire the intricate stone carvings by master carver Albert Bernasconi and reflect on the importance of water conservation and infrastructure. To visit the Pulgas Water Temple, take Interstate 280 to the Edgewood Road exit and head west to Cañada Road, then north approximately two miles to the temple.
