About the Business

Hanloh is a unique institution located at 1011 Cedar Street in Santa Cruz, California. This multi-faceted establishment combines elements of a bar, book store, food, restaurant, and store all in one. Since 2017, Hanloh has evolved from catering events to hosting popups and offering meal delivery services during the Covid pandemic.

Hanloh has a special connection to the local community, having held popups at Sante Adairius Rustic Ales for over two years. In Fall 2022, the institution launched a restaurant residency program with Bad Animal in Downtown Santa Cruz. The Thai cuisine at Hanloh is inspired by the seasons and pays homage to the abundance of local California ingredients.

The concept of Hanloh was born out of owner Lalita Kaewsawang's Thai and Northern California upbringing. The name "Hanloh" is a common Thai greeting used when answering the phone, reflecting Lalita's personal connection to her culture. Guests are invited to experience a piece of Thai culture and culinary journey through the delicious offerings at Hanloh. Visit us and immerse yourself in the flavors and traditions of Thailand blended with the local bounty of California.

"Why has it taken so long for SC to get a restaurant with flavor, outstanding service, and amazing ambiance? But the day has finally arrived. Hanloh is absolutely the best restaurant in SC. Every single dish they have on their menu is superb. The wait staff here are kind and extremely knowledgeable about their food and wine menu. And the restaurant is in an old book store. How cool is that? Seriously if you can’t appreciate good food, don’t come here. Save the space for those of us that can."

"Lalita makes great Thai food, which is really hard to find in the Bay Area in general. The tomato jaew is so good, we wish we could buy it in larger batches. Bad animal is a cozy location. And we appreciate that we can bring our dog for outdoor seating."
