Proudly serving residents for over a century, our library is deeply rooted in history, having opened its first branch on March 11, 1914. Named in honor of Dr. Clifton M. Brakensiek, who generously donated the land for the library, our current facility has been a hub of knowledge and community activity since its dedication on August 16, 1975. At Clifton M. Brakensiek Library, we are committed to providing an enriching environment for learning, creativity, and community engagement. Our library was a pioneer in library technology, serving as the Automated Circulation System pilot site and the first County library to implement an online circulation system in 1989.

Welcome to the George Nye, Jr. Library, a cornerstone of the Lakewood community since its opening on February 22, 1973. Located at 6600 Del Amo Boulevard, Lakewood, California, our library serves the eastern area of the city, including eight elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. Named in honor of Lakewood Mayor George H. Nye, Jr., who passed away while in office in 1971, the library is committed to fostering a love of reading and lifelong learning. The library is supported by the dedicated Friends of Lakewood Libraries, a volunteer-run organization established in 1972.
