Cold Spring Canyon Arch Bridge
The Cold Spring Canyon Arch Bridge, located in Santa Barbara, California, is a significant landmark that connects Santa Barbara with Santa Ynez. Standing at 400 ft above the canyon floor, it is the highest arch bridge in California and one of the tallest in the United States. Completed in 1964, the bridge is a marvel of engineering and design, recognized for its beauty and historical significance. Adjacent to the bridge is the Cold Spring Tavern, an old stagecoach stop that adds to the area's rich history. The bridge has been designated as a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark and underwent seismic retrofitting in 1998. Sadly, the bridge has also been the site of several suicides over the years, prompting the installation of a protective barrier in 2012. Despite these tragic events, the Cold Spring Canyon Arch Bridge remains a remarkable structure that continues to captivate visitors with its grandeur and beauty.
