Her medical education was completed at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine on an Air Force scholarship, followed by a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the same institution.

With a commitment to excellence, Dr. Wiegand served as an officer in the Air Force, where she gained extensive experience in both Ohio and Virginia. She further specialized by completing a fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Her research interests include ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis, and managing substance use disorders during pregnancy, alongside a focus on pre-existing maternal medical conditions and in-utero therapy.
