Our Fire Prevention Bureau is committed to protecting the lives and property of our citizens, visitors, and firefighters through rigorous code enforcement and effective fire safety measures. We review land development and building plans, inspect buildings and safety systems, and evaluate water systems for optimal fire protection. Our vision is to maintain the necessary infrastructure, including staffing, technology, and procedures, to meet the current and future safety demands of our growing community.

Led by our Deputy Chief of Support Services, our team of four Fire Inspectors and Prevention Bureau Staff focuses on key objectives to ensure community safety. The Fire Rescue Division, the largest division of the Mentor Fire Department, is staffed by 104 state-certified firefighters and emergency medical providers. With 86 trained paramedics, our team offers quick and effective emergency services from five strategically located stations within Mentor.

Our Code Enforcement program ensures compliance with local, state, and national safety codes for all non-residential buildings. Regular inspections by our on-duty fire crews help familiarize them with properties and identify potential fire and life safety violations. Our Fire Prevention Bureau oversees various inspection programs, including automatic fire suppression system checks and new construction assessments.

Mentor Fire Station No. 2 is also home to specialized teams, including the Technical Rescue Team and the Hazardous Materials Team (Haz-Mat). These teams undergo rigorous training to handle unique and dangerous emergencies, such as water rescues, trench collapses, and hazardous material incidents. Our collaborative training exercises with other local fire departments enhance our preparedness for any situation.
