"Cat or Kat was super genuine and nice. Most staff were kind on 4th FL. a couple were rude to other patients. I was trapped there for nearly 6 days. Felt like Prison. Hurt my lumbar on bed and in day room. Your every task and daily task and certain actions were heavily controlled. I never planned on being admitted due to Work Stress. That place really messed with my Head. And my 5 yr job still nearly Fired me. They kept taking more and more blood vials. My right arm is red and yellow and im in my 30s atm. Never ever again. I dont wish that place or Dyer, IN's version of them on anyone. Mentally unwell or not. Find doctors. Not a psych ward/ medical prison. Emphasis on medical prison. I was very polite. Most ppl were quite polite back. But that didnt take away the long term scars of being Locked away for nearly a week. 75% against my will. No hospital admitted me and Cops did not drag me in there. I only needed the first FL ER. That was it.. and now i owe Community $$ i dont have. Are you kidding me."
"An employee of COHMS messaging people that she took care of our loved one during her hospital stay in February to March. Working in a hospital and talking about past patients is unethical in a behavioral unit seriously! So the whole duration of our loved ones hospital stay has us questioning a lot of the actions of the staff at St Catherine's Behavioral Unit. We want to speak Leo Correa the CEO in person ASAP. This person is either a CNA, Night Watcher, or related to Dr on staff at this network. Which Drs are related to this employee. Now we understand why we were unable to see our loved one. I have text messages sent to me from an outsider related to conversation from this employee. We are livid. You have our emails and my phone number. Response was a generic and the said person does work there. Go to another Mental Health facility if you need help. Over medication in this place is awful, patient diabetic, put patient who has never been on lithium on it and failed to test levels as required Dr called patient a liar about disclosing they are diabetic. Patient lost a lot of weight ended up in IMCU. Drs treating patient horrible spoke about patient recorded conversation with 2 Drs astounded by the lack of compassion and professionalism. Patient didn't need lithium had a urinary tract infection. Per patients records the Dr decided patient a good candidate for ECT stay clear of this place. There is no therapy here unless you are in a room listening to music, or locked in a chair for hours. If I could give this facility a zero I would."
"Do not take your loved ones there, if you need help go ANYWHERE else. Patient was given medication under false pretenses (pain) for a condition they never had (BD) and threatened for refusing it after suffering side effects -which were falsely attributed to arthritis (which they did not then, and still do not have). They were confused for a different patient, yelled at and physically threatened for "being too calm", called CPS because he was upset that the patient didn't get upset when they were being threatened. (Nothing came of the call and the worker offered a letter proving such in case the doctor further harrassed the patient.) Was told getting treatment was not like "buying new shoes or a new purse". They complained and were told "nothing could be done because the doctor was a contracted worker". I looked him up and he has MANY negative reviews. In a crises when this person was only semi-conscious, they awoke long enough to beg not to be taken back there. It's heartbreaking to see how much damage this place did to someone needing help. Please avoid this place."
"This might be the worst behavioral health inpatient in the country. I was put on a 72 hold for the slightest mention of non acute suicidal thought. I left the hospital with Covid, a UTI, severe jock itch, and athletes foot. The facility is awful and unclean. They take your underwear and the rest of your clothes and put you in these uncomfortable and dirty scrubs. There is absolutely nothing to do to kill time. No TV, no books, no music. There was one communal room that doubled as the cafeteria. The food was uneatable. This hospital is in the ghetto so I realize they don't attract the best talent but the nurses were clueless. The staff as a whole treated us like criminals. Rooms had 2 plastic beds, a toilet, and a sink, not another object and we were locked in there from 10pm-8am every night. In my 4 days there I saw the Dr. twice for about 5 minutes confirming what I already knew. They weened down my dose of benzos at a pace 100x faster than recommended. I'm not someone who writes many reviews. I just want people to be aware of how terrible this place is. It should be shut down and shame on most of the people that work there."
"Please DO NOT go to St. Catherine’s Hospital in East Chicago, Indiana for any help regarding mental health. Their behavioral health unit is a nightmare. I was held there for seven days without any real treatment or a diagnosis. My questions were left unanswered by nurses and staff. They started me on medicine without ever diagnosing me with anything. They will tell you they have groups, the groups were 10 - 20 minutes long and usually involved watching a short video and being told to “breathe and relax”. Other groups were walking up and down the hallway while music played & essential oils were sprayed into the air. There was constant free time, and in that free time your options were sleep, color, or watch TV. They then banned me from having visitors because my family members were “rude” after calling and demanding answers. I had a nurse take a blanket off me in the middle of the night and drop the blanket in the hallway for absolutely no reason. There are no therapists, no coping mechanisms or skills learned while you stay here. If you are looking for any real, constructive help please do NOT take yourself or your family here."
