"Very cool monument. This living piece of history is worth viewing."
"Not much to see, but plenty to sense. Also go in the woods if you like discarded grocery carts and bottles and such. I was surrounded by deer out there!"
"So this site is an abandoned military installation open for exploration. Very significant history here and the desolate nature of it adds to the mood. I looked for the memorial statue but it’s not there. Instead you get a really broken down asphalt lot that takes a lot of hiking on dirt roads to find. It was a bit of a pain in the butt to locate. I did see the missile silos and they were great to look at. I wish I could have peaked inside but they are bolted/welded down. This place is great for a dedicated solo or dedicated group, not very family friendly. Enjoy!!"
"This is the actual remnants of the Nike Missile site at Wolf Lake. The walk back takes time and is a bit rugged, but it was worth it for me. There is also the lake to enjoy when you're done exploring."
"This is the actual location of the missile silos. The other listing is a restored missile on display near the entrance of the park/preserve. It's a fair hike to get back here as the road is closed off very close to the main road, but it is worth it. There isn't a whole heck of a lot to see. Concrete pads with huge steel plates welded/bolted over them. But just to stand in a place with so much historical significance should move you greatly unless you're the type of person who thinks the Kardashians are important.. In which case I pity you. Had the unthinkable ever happened during the cold War, the people of the southeast side of Chicago's first warning likely would have been these missiles, suddenly taking off, seemingly from their own neighborhood, and leaving eerie smoke trails up to the sky. Chilling to think about."
