Torresdale Library

Welcome to the Torresdale Library, a cherished branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, located at 3079 Holme Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19136. Serving the vibrant communities of Academy Gardens, Ashton-Woodbridge, Holme Circle, Pennypack, Pennypack Woods, and Upper Holmesburg, our library is a cornerstone of local history and community engagement.

Nestled in an area rich with history, the library is situated near the final resting place of Thomas Holme, the Surveyor-General who played a pivotal role in the development of Philadelphia. The region's roots trace back to the first Swedish and English settlers and has evolved from its origins in Lower Dublin Township to become an integral part of Philadelphia.

The Torresdale Branch opened its doors in February 1972 and underwent a renovation in 1999 as part of the "Changing Lives" campaign. Our library is renowned for its stunning architectural features, including wooden cathedral ceilings, and the enchanting Mother Goose mural in the preschool area. This delightful artwork brings to life beloved nursery rhymes such as Humpty Dumpty and Jack and Jill, complete with a real clock adorned by a painted mouse.

Please note that the Free Library system, including Torresdale Library, will close at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 30, and will remain closed through Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day.
