Our efforts are guided by two advisory boards: the Board of Health and the Air Pollution Control Board, which steer our policy and regulatory decisions. Additionally, our Institutional Review Board (IRB) oversees research studies involving human subjects, ensuring ethical standards and participant safety.
The Medical Examiner’s Office (MEO) plays a crucial role in determining the cause and manner of sudden, unexpected, and unnatural deaths within Philadelphia, providing essential insights and data for public health interventions.
We focus on building a healthy future for our community with initiatives such as childhood vaccinations for diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis, and promoting the HPV vaccine to protect children for a lifetime. While the risk of bird flu (H5N1) remains low, we continue to monitor and address potential health threats.
In response to mosquito-related concerns, the Health Department will conduct spraying in Pennypack and Fairmount Parks to control the mosquito population and protect public health.
