"This Roman Catholic Church, built in 1763, is not far from Independence Hall, and tied to it in American history. The adjoining cemetery includes the graves of Commodore Barry (Father of the US Navy) and George Meade. Members of the Continental Congress attended services here from 1777-1781. The church offers daily morning mass on weekdays, plus a Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning service. If you visit when the church is closed, there are interpretive plaques detailing its significance."
"My 4th GGF General Stephen Moylan has his marker here with his friends Barry and Fitzimmons. They started the Friendly Sons of St Patrick and the Priest is fabulous. It was a long time ago but he has been very kind sharing things he knows with me while I am sure he is a very busy man. Thank you for your kindness and sharing history with me. My 4th GGF is credited with naming the country and was a fabulous Fierce War Patriot. Thank you Padre for helping keep his Spirit alive."
"My Aunt Peg Carroll loved Old Saint Mary's Church and was so proud to Lector and help with the cookie and coffee gathering after mass. I visited my Aunt often and loved to see the changes. There is a lot of character and history in this church. The priest was wonderful and caring. My Aunt Peg recently passed and I will always think fondly of both she and Old Saint Mary's. "God of our fathers-be with us yet." β₯οΈ"
"Honestly, this the best church I have ever attended. Monsignor Paul is truly an amazing human being. And, a fantastic pastor. The history of this church is part of the core of America. And, he recognizes that awesome responsibility while also representing the heart and sole of modern Philadelphia. He somehow is able to give a homily in 5-7 minutes which inspires intellectual though for the rest of the week. The Jesuits should be very proud of him as he embodies the ethos of being "A man for Others.""
