"I am Judi Hibbitts Wagner and my parents were involved with the forming of the neighbors to form Brookview Volunteer Fire Company. However,I thi nk there should be something written about how the auxiliary helped and supported our firefighters. I was very young when the fire company was formed but I do remember so many things about the early years. While the men were firefights, the auxiliary was the group that raised money to help build the fire house and support the fire company. The auxiliary held dances for adults and sold advertisements to raise money. The advertisements were imprinted on folding tables. These tables were used at the dances the held. Originally, the dances were held at Patrick's Grove and later at the firehouse after the second floor was added. They held teen dances every Friday night that were well attended. They also, ran the refreshment stand at Dallenbach's Swimming hole during the summer. All profits from all of these were turned over to the fire company. They would also, take the men hot or cold drinks and sandwiches when they would be out for an extended time fighting fires. If it wasn't for these women, the firemen wouldn't have been able to do as much as they did. I should mention how auxiliaries from other East Brunswick had never done these things and decided to support their men when they were a major fires. Oh, and my brother Harold Hibbitts was the chief of Brookview, and how proud of we were of him. Judi Wagner, originally from 8 Patrick St. now from Gordonsville, TN., where we live in the country, similar to what our area of East Brunswick used to be."
