Welcome to the St. Louis Public Library Foundation

Located at 1415 Olive Street in the heart of St. Louis, Missouri, the St. Louis Public Library Foundation is a vital independent nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the St. Louis Public Library. Established by the Library’s Board of Directors in 1989 and reorganized in 2003, the Foundation plays a pivotal role in securing private-sector support to meet the ever-growing needs of the Library.

Our mission is to advocate and fundraise for the Library's diverse programs and services, fostering relationships with individuals and organizations who share our passion for enriching community life through education and information. As a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization, all donations made to the Foundation are fully tax-deductible, enabling donors to contribute meaningfully to the Library’s mission.

The St. Louis Public Library, with roots dating back to 1865, has evolved from a subscription-based library to a public institution open to all St. Louis residents. Our historic Central Library, a gift from Andrew Carnegie, and our 16 branches serve as cultural and educational hubs, housing over 4 million items and welcoming 2 million visitors annually.
