"So yesterday I had one of biggest fears confirmed. In 2015 I hired Downs Home Improvement to redo my bathroom. I bought the tub, floor tile, sink, sink pedastal, light fixture, and shower head. He provided the tile and was supposed to provide concrete backer board and was supposed to gut the bathroom and remove all rotted wood and lay a new sub floor. I have suspected for years that he cut a lot of corners especially since the surface work was so poorly done. And yesterday when a tile fell off while I was showering it was confirmed that instead of putting concrete backer board he just adhered the tiles directly to the lath and plaster. I paid him 6000 dollars and now I am going to have to gut the bathroom again only 7 years after redoing it. I don't think he removed the rotted wood and I'm positive he just went over the existing sub floor. He was also supposed to remove a drum trap which he left since he didn't have the skill set to do that. That drum trap failed 2 years ago resulting in my having to have the ceiling in my hallway taken partially down, the drum trap removed and the plumbing updated, and then the ceiling put back up. It also left a hole in my bathroom floor that still needs to be repaired. Jeff Downs is an unscrupulous criminal. He took advantage of my lack of knowledge about owning a home and hiring contractors and completely ripped me off. More bad work discovered. He reused the old wax ring and then stacked tiles up to compensate for not ripping out the original floor as originally agreed upon. Jeff Downs is probably one of the worst contractors I've ever come across."
