In 1863, the Battle of Chickamauga marked a significant moment in American history as Union and Confederate forces clashed over the strategic city of Chattanooga, known as the "Gateway to the Deep South." Though the Confederates claimed victory at Chickamauga in September, subsequent battles in Chattanooga led to a decisive Union win, signaling a turning point in the Civil War. A Confederate soldier poignantly remarked, "This...is the death-knell of the Confederacy."
