Mel Mc Kay Park
About the Business
Welcome to Mel McKay Park, a beautiful 30-acre green oasis located at 9009 Ridgewood Road, Rock Island, Illinois. Named after former Rock Island Mayor Mel McKay (1945-1953), our park offers plenty of room to explore and enjoy nature. Situated at the intersection of 92nd Avenue and Upper Ridgewood Road, Mel McKay Park is a perfect spot for outdoor enthusiasts and families alike.
Exciting updates are underway! Our popular pickleball courts, located on the east side of the park, are getting a makeover. Starting September 25th, Langman Construction will begin work on replacing the existing courts with six brand-new ones. While the courts will be closed during construction, we look forward to unveiling the improved facilities soon. Additionally, our parking lot will be repaired, sealed, and painted in the spring to enhance your visit.
For those looking to host a picnic or party, our park features a small shelter available for rent starting April 1 each year. Whether you're here for a game of pickleball or a leisurely day in the sun, Mel McKay Park offers a welcoming and vibrant environment for all. Come and experience the charm and tranquility of one of Rock Island's treasured community spaces!

Reviews
"This park was so clean and very inviting and quiet, and the scene was beautiful. The parking was good too."
"My review is all about the newly refurbished pickleball courts, which are fantastic! There are 6 courts (3 on each side with a nice lane down the middle with benches and some sun blocking overhangs). It’s all fenced in with nice gates for each court. Lighting is supposed to be installed this year (2024), and there are two very large parking lots. There’s even a windsock to identify wind direction. A paved path connects these courts with the tennis courts and main path that’s one street over. They need some signage on the main road to let visitors know where to turn because Google maps will take you to the wrong area where the tennis courts are. There is one porta potty, but dedicated restrooms would be a great benefit."
"Nice and quiet park. 2 tennis courts, basketball court, basketball dimond. Pavilion, bathrooms, library side, another park and open field on the opposite side, walking trails, and outhouses. Kids love both sides of the park. Great for parties and get together."
"This is a great park! It has two nice shaded playgrounds, a basketball court, tennis courts, baseball field, Pickleball courts, plenty of parking, a pavilion, drinking fountains, trails, and more! It is definitely worth a visit if you’ve never been to it… plenty of stuff for families to do together!"
"It has a nice paved trail in wooded area near pickleball courts. Also, larger path connects the pickleball courts to a baseball field and tennis courts. Some nice open spaces for a smaller park."
