DNRT Smith Farm
About the Business
Welcome to DNRT Smith Farm, a serene 142-acre park nestled in the heart of Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Located on Smith Neck Road, just north of Round Hill, this protected gem offers an enchanting array of habitats, from agricultural farmlands and meadows to upland forests and salt marshes. Whether you're a nature enthusiast or simply looking for a peaceful escape, Smith Farm provides a perfect setting for exploration and relaxation.
Our park features four well-marked walking trails that meander through diverse landscapes, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature. Traverse the lush wetland woods, where mosses, ferns, and clear pools create a paradise for frogs, salamanders, and turtles. Well-constructed bridges and boardwalks ensure a dry and enjoyable walk through the wooded wetlands.
A unique highlight of Smith Farm is the large, man-made horseshoe-shaped trout pond, offering clear and deep waters surrounded by a narrow trail. For those seeking breathtaking views, the Orange Trail leads to an observation platform overlooking the restored Nonquitt salt marsh, showcasing nature's resilience and beauty.
Historically, this land was owned by James Henry Smith, who transformed it into a thriving dairy farm in 1898, a legacy that continued until the 1950s. Today, thanks to the generous donations and acquisitions by Llewellyn Howland Jr., W. Julian Underwood, Elliot Bates McKee, the Portuguese Cultural Foundation, and the Western Run Salter’s Trust, the park remains a testament to conservation and community spirit.
Visitors can access Smith Farm by looking for the DNRT sign at the entrance on Smith Neck Road, with parking available along the road. We invite you to explore, enjoy, and connect with nature, all while supporting our mission to protect and maintain this precious landscape.

Reviews
"Absolutely gorgeous trail with scenic viewing tower at the end! Worth the walk to the viewing platform because the view is just breathtaking! Come here at sunset and watch the sunset over the horizon!"
"What a cool place! Entrance has moved and visitors can no longer use the previous parking area/entrance as it is private property. Once you find where you can enter, there are several trails complete with boardwalks and some muddy areas. Walk around horseshoe pond for a nice scene but make sure to reach observation point!! You are able to see Nonquitt Marsh open out to Buzzard's Bay and a bunch of wildlife!"
"Walk out to the overlook and learn about how they are trying to return this marsh to it's natural state"
"Absolutely beautiful. Trails mapped out well. Boards in muddy areas. Little bridges to cross and many littl3 cute trails to explore. Dog friendly!"
"A little muddy after a big rain last night but still quite beautiful on a sunny January day"
