"I saw Dr. Mattingly for my second knee replacement a little over 4 wks ago. At that time I had to have a manipulation to my first knee replacement done 7 months prior. I CANNOT say enough good about Dr.Matingly! I had gone with another highly recommended surgeon. I wish that I had gone with Dr. Mattingly in the first place. But I would have had to push out the surgery 2 more months. I should have waited! As a former Occupational Therapy Assistant for 20 years. And and did not achieve the optimal 90 degrees knee flexion at my 2 WK follow up. My then surgeon Dr. James Bono, was incredibly rude, and dismissive and wouldn't listen to me. That I was a former tharapist and I knew the consequence of not doing the exercises. Would be a manipulation. A painful procedure where scar tissue is mannualy broken up to release the contracture. He kept interrupting me saying "I did my job, you didn't do your job!" Similar to the mantra he had proudly exposed in the original surgical consultation. He was angry because he didn't meet his numbers. He didn't give a darn about me as a person, much less a patient. I was a seasoned therapist who had treated hundred of knee replacements. If he treated me like that. How would he treat a frail 80 year old lady. Nothing but a bully. I know most surgeons have the personality of bear traps. But Dr. Mattingly couldn't be any more the opposite. So, I was quite reluctant to have my other knee done, which was the plan. To get it over quickly. But because of my bad experience. I'll be honest I was quite fearful. And I have had many orthopeadic procedures over the years, and have a huge pain tolerance. But Dr.Matingly couldn't be more knowledgeable, compassionate and reassuring! Taking time to answer all of my questions. Without being an arrogant doctor with an obvious god complex. Today Dr. Mattingly informed me that I was ahead of schedule in the recovery process. No judgement, no accusations. I really wished that I had waited the extra time and gone with Dr. Mattingly in the first place. I probably would have still have had to undergone a manipulation. As he said "We don't know why the scar tissue, occurs? Sometimes it does, usually in younger people such as yourself". No judgements, no accusations, no condemnations. Just education and compassion, as it should be!"
