About the Business
Welcome to Nut Island Fishing Pier, a charming local gem nestled within the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area. Located at Island Avenue, Quincy, Massachusetts 02169, Nut Island is a unique destination that offers a blend of history, nature, and recreation. This quaint park, once a standalone island, is now a picturesque peninsula connected to the mainland by a historic causeway.
Nut Island is renowned for its popular fishing pier, a favorite spot for local anglers. Whether you're a seasoned fisherman or a casual visitor, the pier provides a serene setting to cast your line and enjoy the stunning views of Quincy Bay to the west and Hingham Bay to the east. Please remember that Massachusetts State fishing license requirements and regulations apply, though no special permit from the National Park Service is needed.
For those looking to explore beyond the pier, a .75-mile paved trail circles the island, offering a leisurely stroll with breathtaking vistas of the Boston skyline and nearby Peddocks Island. The trail is wheelchair accessible, though some assistance may be needed on the slightly hilly terrain. Along the way, you'll find benches perfect for taking a break and soaking in the natural beauty.
Nut Island's rich history adds an intriguing layer to your visit. Discover the Proving Ground Monument, a relic from the mid-1800s, commemorating Nut Island's past as a testing site for artillery. This small monument, crafted from a piece of a Rodman gun barrel, stands as a testament to the island's storied past.
With its limited parking and peaceful atmosphere, Nut Island Fishing Pier is a beloved spot for locals seeking relaxation and recreation. While primarily a destination for residents, its charm and scenic views make it a delightful stop for those nearby. Whether you're fishing, walking the trail, or simply unwinding on a bench, Nut Island offers a tranquil escape in the heart of Boston Harbor.

"Meh. Fishing was boring. It's not an island, it's a Pier."
"Didn’t go out the fishing pier itself, it had plenty of people still on it despite the later hour in the day that we visited. There were lots of trails that crisscrossed the area, all with great views that we walked instead. Just a great little area to walk your dog or just yourself."
"Beautiful place but no benches, no tables ( if that fishing pier, this is a must. And unfortunately there is a lot of seaweed mess, it looks like nobody wash it."
"The awesome place in Quincy and Boston harbour system. You can drive car right into the fishing pier also. Don't forget to taste some beach plums.."
"If you drive here through the edge around the town, the view is beautiful. Private house with private sun decks. The park is pretty good to sit down in the morning see the sun rise, sunsets are not directly visible, but it’s peaceful to sit any way. The pier is nice and quite to walk around. You can see Boston skyline and deer island."
