We offer an online Assessing tool where you can search for Preliminary FY 2025 real estate assessments and taxes, providing you with convenient access to important information. While movable, physical property is generally subject to personal property tax, certain exceptions may apply. We encourage you to learn more about personal property tax on our website.

In 2016, Boston voters embraced the Community Preservation Act (CPA), approving it through Ballot Question 5. This initiative led to the creation of the Community Preservation Fund, which is partially financed by a 1% property tax-based surcharge on residential and business property tax bills. You may notice this surcharge on your tax bills.

As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining accurate assessments, our team of assessors will be conducting inspections across the City in the coming weeks. These inspections, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, focus on properties that have not been inspected or sold in the past decade.
