Franklin Square
About the Business
Welcome to Franklin Square, a vibrant and essential part of Boston’s extensive park system. Nestled at 1530 Washington Street, Boston, Massachusetts, Franklin Square offers a serene escape in the heart of the city. As part of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department, we are committed to creating and maintaining clean, green, safe, and accessible open spaces across more than 2,300 acres of parkland throughout Boston.
Franklin Square is one of the 217 city parks that our department oversees, alongside playgrounds, athletic fields, and more. With a dedication to enhancing community life, we provide a plethora of amenities, including 65 squares, 17 fountains, and 75 game courts. Our efforts also extend to the stewardship of historic sites, including 16 historic and three active cemeteries, as well as the care of approximately 125,000 trees, including over 35,000 street trees.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Tree Removal and Parks and Recreation Commission hearings are now conducted online. We invite you to enjoy free family-favorite movies in your neighborhood parks and experience the return of the six-concert Tito Puente Latin Music Series in July and August. Looking for outdoor fun this summer? Discover the full schedule of free events and activities for all ages offered by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department.
Additionally, Franklin Square is part of the 1,100-acre chain of nine parks linked by parkways and waterways, known as the historic Emerald Necklace. We are proud to partner with local businesses like Roundhead Brewing Company and Fresh Food Generation, who bring unique experiences like Alianza, a traveling beer garden, to the community.
Visit Franklin Square and become part of our mission to foster a thriving urban oasis in Boston. Whether you’re looking to relax, play, or explore, Franklin Square offers something for everyone.

Reviews
"Often trash everywhere and needles."
"The full name is the Blackstone Franklin Square. It is a public park in the South End about a block walk from Flour Bakery on Washington Street and two blocks borth of Boston University Medical Campus. Quite lovely. Would rival Rittenhouse Square if more benches were available. Over the past 10 years, the park has evolved and become cleaner and safer for people to hang out."
"I grew up in the south end played in Blackstone park in the late 50s / 60s for that 5 stars"
"A very peaceful place to enjoy the Nature and to take fresh air under the shades of the trees."
