About the Business
Welcome to Peters Park, a vibrant oasis nestled in the heart of Boston's South End at 230 Shawmut Avenue. As a cherished local park and tourist attraction, Peters Park is part of the expansive network of green spaces managed by the Boston Parks and Recreation Department. Our mission is to cultivate clean, green, safe, and accessible open spaces across Boston's 2,346 acres of parkland, which includes 217 city parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, and much more.
Peters Park offers a perfect escape for families, tourists, and locals alike, providing a serene environment amidst the bustling city. Whether you're looking for a peaceful spot to unwind, a playground for your children, or a venue for community events, Peters Park is your destination. As part of our commitment to community and culture, we host a variety of events, including the popular Tito Puente Latin Music Series and free family movie nights in neighborhood parks.
This summer, explore the Boston Parks and Recreation Department's diverse schedule of free events and activities, designed to engage visitors of all ages. Additionally, don't miss the unique Alianza traveling beer garden, a collaboration between Roundhead Brewing Company and Fresh Food Generation, bringing a delightful blend of craft beer and fresh food to our parks.
Our dedication extends beyond recreation to preserving Boston's natural and historic beauty. We manage three active cemeteries, 16 historic burying grounds, and a significant portion of the historic Emerald Necklace. With over 125,000 trees under our care, we are committed to maintaining the city's lush canopy.
Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Tree Removal and Parks and Recreation Commission hearings are now held online. We invite you to visit Peters Park and experience the beauty and vitality of Boston's green spaces. Whether you're a local resident or a visitor, Peters Park promises a refreshing and memorable experience in the heart of the city.

"Great urban park with a playground, tennis, basketball, baseball and ample grassy areas. Busy on nice weather days"
"The small dog side is well kept up. The latlrger dog side often has dog fights break out and frequently has many areas of dog waste that are not picked up."
"Great place to bring your best friend! Two sections! One for small shy dogs, and one for those who want to run with the big dogs."
"This is a very large park with many activities to partake in. I love how there are rows of benches near the basketball courts so people can sit and enjoy. Great place for tournaments. There's also a large tennis court, a mini dog park area, and a kids playground as well. Great place to take the kids or your pets to have fun"
"I’ve been taking my Husky puppy to Peters Park since he was 3.5 months old. It’s in South End on Washington St and it’s a medium sized fenced park (not a huge space for doggos to run and get tired but they can chase & run, fetch the ball and play). This park has water fountain for dogs, few cube sized stones for them to hop on and pose and 5 seating area for hoomans! This park gets lots of dogs b/w 7-8:30AM and 4:30-6:30 PM. DRS is separated into two spaces one for all dog sized (this has a larger space) and other exclusive for small sized puppies and dogs(the ones that could fit in a woman’s handbag lol)"
