First Church In Roxbury
About the Business
Welcome to the First Church in Roxbury, a historic and vibrant community space located at 10 Putnam Street, Boston, Massachusetts. As a church, park, and place of worship, we are dedicated to serving the diverse needs of our community through a variety of impactful programs and initiatives.
Our mission is to work across race and place to dismantle systemic barriers, fostering a Greater Boston where everyone can live with freedom, dignity, and equitable access to resources and opportunities. Our vision is a future where all individuals can shape their present and future, regardless of their background.
Rooted in history, the First Church in Roxbury has been a cornerstone of the community since the Colonial Period (1631 - 1775). We are committed to addressing issues of race and enslavement, engaging our community in meaningful conversations and actions.
Our Roxbury Youth Programs (RYP) offer extensive programming for local youth, including after-school drop-in activities and internships, providing an average of numerous hours of engagement each month. These initiatives aim to empower the next generation and foster a sense of community and belonging.
We are proud to have hosted our first-ever virtual Community Conversation, featuring esteemed historian and former State Representative Byron Rushing. This event is part of an ongoing series that addresses critical issues facing communities of color. We look forward to continuing this important dialogue in our upcoming Season 4.
For years, our Renewal House has provided safe housing and healing counseling to families fleeing domestic violence, offering a sanctuary for those in need.
Located in the heart of John Eliot Square, the First Church in Roxbury is more than just a place of worship; it's a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change. Join us as we continue our work in Roxbury and beyond, striving for a just and inclusive future for all.
