The historic Emerald Necklace, a 1,100-acre chain of nine parks linked by parkways and waterways, is a testament to our dedication to preserving Boston's natural beauty. We manage three active cemeteries and 16 burying grounds, honoring the city's rich history and heritage.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Tree Removal and Parks and Recreation Commission hearings are now held online, ensuring safety and accessibility for all. This summer, enjoy free family favorite movies in your neighborhood parks, or join us for the six-concert Tito Puente Latin Music Series in July and August.
For those seeking outdoor adventures, explore the Boston Parks and Recreation Department's full schedule of free events and activities for all ages. Additionally, we're excited to introduce Alianza, a first-of-its-kind traveling beer garden brought to you by Roundhead Brewing Company and Fresh Food Generation, in partnership with the City of Boston.

"The statue displayed is a memorial featuring a classically inspired bas-relief sculpture set into a stone monument. At the top, there's a figure in high relief, likely representing an allegorical or classical figure, draped in flowing robes and holding what appears to be a bundle of wheat, symbolizing perhaps agriculture or the harvest. The statue is a bronze plaque with a profile relief portrait, surrounded by a laurel wreath, of Francis Parkman, a renowned American historian. The style of the sculpture is neoclassical, evident in the use of classical figures and motifs, the drapery of the clothing, and the overall formality of the composition. The monument's design reflects the commemorative architectural language commonly used in the late 19th to early 20th century."
