About the Business
Welcome to Roslindale Wetlands Urban Wilds, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Boston, Massachusetts. Located at Hazelmere Road, this tranquil park is part of the Urban Wilds Initiative, which aims to protect the city's publicly-owned natural spaces and ensure that both current and future residents can enjoy these natural treasures.
The Roslindale Wetlands Urban Wilds encompass two distinct areas: Eldon Street I and Eldon Street II. These urban wilds are situated to the east of the renowned Arnold Arboretum and are surrounded by the charming backyards of local residents. Despite their secluded nature, there are a few discreet entry points for those looking to explore the serene beauty of these wetlands.
Eldon Street I is a low-lying area that serves as a vital catch basin for stormwater, featuring a lush, forested wetland habitat. While the area is predominantly natural, it has been overrun by non-native, invasive species such as multi-flora rose and buckthorn. Although a boardwalk once allowed visitors access to the wetter sections, the dense vegetation now makes entry challenging.
Adjacent to Eldon Street I, Eldon Street II offers a slightly higher topography but still functions primarily as a stormwater catch basin. Like its counterpart, it is enveloped by a vibrant forested wetland environment. Access is available through two vacant lots, inviting nature enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the rustic charm of this urban oasis.
Whether you're a local resident or a visitor, Roslindale Wetlands Urban Wilds provide a peaceful retreat from the bustling city life, offering a unique opportunity to connect with nature and witness the diverse ecosystems that thrive in Boston's urban landscape. Come and discover the serene beauty and ecological significance of this remarkable park.

"This formerly overgrown ten acre urban wild gained new attention and size from successful, years long community efforts to halt proposed development on its eastern edge and to restore it. It features a perimeter trail around and through low-lying, forested wetlands and other varied micro-landscapes. A broad range of resident and transient wildlife have the City managing the land both as a sanctuary for animals and an oasis for people. The City and community have been partnering for years to establish an ever stronger base of native trees, plants, and wildflowers. During 2021-22 the wild was significantly enhanced by a long list of capital improvements, and there are more to come. ."
"Beautiful little spot- about a 15-20 walk around. I would definetly recommend coming here because you don't see too many wetlands in the Boston area."
"I've seen a muskrat, owl, bird of prey---and a dilapidated old barn. I love this little walk."
"This was actually a lovely stroll for a winter afternoon after some light snow. The nature was beautiful and I took a quick hike through with my baby in her carrier. It felt like I was getting out of the city by only walking a few feet away. There were a few rough patches but nothing that deterred me from doing the whole loop. My babe enjoyed the walk as well :)"
"The path is fairly overgrown, it's hard to tell whether you're going anywhere of interest. Most of the path runs behind people's houses. It feels too small and full of weeds to be very full of wildlife. Saw much fewer birds than the nearby Arnold Arboretum."
