"EDIT 11/26/19: MIIA Property & Casualty/MIIA Health Benefits Trust sent me the denial letter (I had only seen a copy that the administrative coordinator at Belmont City Hall shared with me). In the letter, Andria says the city would be liable for the damage to my car if it had received a request to fix the pothole and not done so. How could I have made that request without knowing of the pothole's existence? Andria added the pothole was fixed the day prior to my accident, but it opened again because of the "strong rain." I wonder about the quality of service and material used on a pothole that completely opened the day after it was "fixed." Think twice before moving to Belmont. Go somewhere else, where you will be well taken care of. I live in Lynn, the city of sin, and every time I had any concern or request, Lynn was there for me! You will not get any care or attention from Belmont! Get away from MIIA Property & Casualty/MIIA Health Benefits Trust! The two people whom I dealt with were unprofessional. One of them was rude in every interaction, and the other simply ignored me! ---------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW: Pothole in Belmont 11/7/19 My husband and I were driving home from Belmont to Lynn on 11/7 when we hit a pothole. It was raining, and the street was dark, so we didn't see the pothole. That pothole gave us a flat tire and broke the rim :( While my husband replaced the tire in the cold, dark, and rain, I emailed Belmont City Hall. I explained what happened and asked for help: I suspected the damage would be big. I also wanted to warn the city, to prevent others from having the same problem. I wish my husband and I had thought about taking a picture of the pothole at the time of the incident... But we went back on 11/9 and it had been fixed. Anyway, the administrative coordinator answered me right away. She was attentive, nice, and polite. She apologized for what "happened on a terrible, rainy Thursday night," and said she would start a claim with the insurance company. We had to buy a new tire (even though we had just bought the tire that was damaged two weeks before!), a rim, head cap, and do an alignment. Damage: $600. I was told yesterday that my request was denied. I disagree with the cause for the denial. It's not fair to have to pay for the damage caused by a pothole that I could not have avoided, nor could I have asked the to fix prior to our incident. I asked one of my friends who is a lawyer for advice, but I am not represented by her. I tried to appeal the denial, but wasn't even given a chance (I had to email the manager to ask if he read my email, since he simply didn't answer me). The night of the incident I had worked my full-time job and had babysat in Belmont to make $69. Is it fair that I worked 9 hours, plus 4 hours babysiting, to end up with a $600 bill? I don't have the time or strength to take in another 9 babysitings to be able to pay for the damage to our car :("
"It cost a lot of money to build this pavement. It costing nothing to destroy this path. Who is responsible for this mismanagement? Just in case, this is the part of the portrait of our beautiful Belmont."
