Reviews
"Old Westwood Cemetery is located on the east side of High Street and was established in 1752. I am interested in hand carved grave stones carved before 1800 and the Old Westwood Cemetery had quite a few. Most of the oldest gravestones are found at the bottom of the hill near the intersection of Nahatan Street. There are many good stones cut by John Dwight and Samuel Fisher but I found the five tombs cut into the hill the most interesting part of cemetery. The tombs were constructed in 1806 and the names of the interred are listed outside each tomb. As is common in many New England cemeteries there are a lot of sad stories behind the names of too many children who died at a young age. There are colonial cemeteries with more old gravestones, but this cemetery is well worth the visit and has a very calming atmosphere as it is mostly wooded and shaded by tall old trees."
