Following the completion of the Green Line and Community Path extension, the City of Somerville is excited to announce plans for the expansion and enhancement of Somerville Junction Park. With a vision to enrich the community experience, potential new amenities may include community gardens, engaging water play areas, and fitness equipment for adults.
Recent updates include the successful paving of the newly built path, which reopened on June 7th between Lowell Street and Central Street. However, the entrance at Centre Street/Woodbine Street remains closed for the next phase of construction. We appreciate your patience as we work to bring this exciting project to life.
During construction, expect temporary detours for those walking, wheeling, or cycling along the Community Path. These detours, in effect 24/7, ensure safety while allowing City Contractors to continue their work. The park is anticipated to open in the spring of 2025, with continuous efforts being made through winter, weather permitting.
We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone at our Groundbreaking Ceremony on August 16th, with a rain date set for August 18th. Engage with the community, city officials, and project teams to learn more about the construction schedule and share your thoughts.

"We call this the "secret park" because it's pretty rarely full! Great for families and dogs. Dogs must be on a leash (it's not fenced in). It is next to the commuter rail and construction, so it can be noisy at times, but it's nice to be outside! It's basically just a field with some benches, but in the pandemic, it feels like a luxury!"
