"I always come here for egg tarts when I am in the area. You know it’s authentic when the egg tart you are holding is heavy! Despite prices have gone up since inflation, it’s still unbeatable comparing to other bakeries in SF (see menu attached as of 7/21/24). Egg tart:$1.7 Pineapple bun: $1.0 Sweet or savory wifey cake: $1.10"
"1 pineapple bun, 1 egg tart, 1 milk tea (lipton tea bag) at USD 6. The egg tart is good! They also sell moon cakes, some pastries / muffins / cake roll etc. The bread are all in a warmer so can't see the selection."
"Found another favorite bakery. We stopped by pretty late on Saturday (6:15pm) and this is one of the few bakeries still open. They have lots of moon cake in the display case. For baked breads, it's more tucked away from sight. You have to ask for it! We got plain pineapple buns, cocktail buns, sponge cake, and egg tart. All are quite affordable. The cocktail buns are heavy! I know golden gate bakery has the most famous egg tarts, but I personally find it too sweet still. Garden bakery egg tart hits every mark in my book! I thought they were Portuguese egg tarts due to the caramelized top. They are not too sweet and the custard is rich. The crust is firm but not too thick. It was $3 for 2 (not sure if it's cheaper due to close to closing time). They reheat well in oven. The pineapple bun is also great. We ate it the next day and reheated in toaster oven. Good top, bread is light and chewy. Again, not too sweet. I will 10/10 return. I'm glad I have another go-to bakery. Reminder, like most Chinatown businesses, it's Cash only."
"I was ecstatic that Garden is still open and serving items from my childhood. The prices might have changed but the locals hanging out, the no bull cashiers are a constant. Go in, point to things you want. You won’t a a long line like other bakeries in Chinatown (which I don’t understand). From a Chinatown native, give this place a chance."
