About the Business
Welcome to the Veterans Affairs Police Department, located at 5901 East 7th Street, Long Beach, California. We are a dedicated federal law enforcement service under the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, committed to ensuring the safety, security, and wellness of all who provide and receive care at VA Medical Centers and other VA facilities, including those in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Our mission is to deter and stop crime, maintain order, and investigate incidents within our jurisdiction. Our officers, equipped with the legal authority granted by Title 38 of the United States Code, serve with integrity and professionalism. With a structured rank system and specialized units like K-9, bicycle, and motorcycle patrols, we stand ready to respond effectively to any situation.
In line with President Biden’s Executive Order 14074 and the bipartisan Cleland-Dole Act of 2022, we are implementing the use of body-worn cameras. This initiative enhances transparency, builds trust, and ensures accountability while respecting the privacy of the Veterans, families, caregivers, and survivors we serve. Our officers undergo rigorous training to uphold our commitment to privacy and compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
We value collaboration with local law enforcement and conduct joint training to enhance our skills and community relations. Our department is continuously seeking qualified applicants with a background in criminal justice or military police experience to join our team. For career opportunities, visit USAJOBS or explore the DoD SkillBridge program for transitioning service members.
For more information on obtaining police reports, visit our Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) page. We are here to serve and protect our community with dedication and honor. Thank you for your trust in the Veterans Affairs Police Department.

"I dont think theyre good cops, i saw 2 people get pulled over back to back, i think theyre trying to meet quota? And saw a distressed female having a panic attack. The cop said "whatever lets go"?"
"imagine giving a ticket to a veteran who is trying to go to the hospital for the first time to get help, and adding more stress onto someone who suffers from PTSD, MDD and anxiety! Just for looking at their phone for 5 seconds to make sure its the right address! The police officers name was Benson, good job benson"
"Since covid-19 restrictions have been in place, mostly my interactions with this facility have been by phone. The pharmacy has been excellent. Trying to get an appointment with the eye clinic is next to impossible.Ive been waiting almost six months for mine."
"When I went into the VA police area I was helped in a very respectful manor. When I ask a VA police for help or directions I'm given help without hesitateion. I have no complaints only praise for their service."
