"Thank you to our heroes and first responders who put themselves on the line to keep the public safe. Special shout-out to the crew at the Long Beach Fire Station # 3 for being human last summer. Their engagement with the kids in the community was encouraging. I never got a chance to thank them when they came out to Drake Park for a training exercise and turned on the water hose so the kids could run underneath the man-made waterfall. The smiles and laughter from both the kids and firefighters was awesome. This reminded me of when the the City of Long Beach would block off the street in the summer and the firemen would drive up in their fire truck and turn on the water from the fire hydrant to cool the kids off. Other times, the crew would arrive at the location and have to drive off and respond to an emergency. Nevertheless, they were back the next week to engage with the kids and families in the community. I hope we can bring the program back once everything gets back to normal. Stay safe."
