Emma Wood Group Camp Ventura, CA 93001
About the Business
Welcome to Emma Wood Group Camp, a picturesque getaway nestled in the heart of Ventura, California. Just two miles west of Ventura, our campground offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue, making it the perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
Emma Wood State Beach is renowned for its moderate temperatures, making it a favorite spot for swimming, surfing, and fishing. Anglers can expect to catch a variety of fish, including perch, bass, cabezon, and corbina. The nearby Ventura River estuary is a haven for wildlife, attracting creatures such as raccoons, songbirds, and the majestic great blue herons. Keep an eye on the ocean, and you might even spot dolphins playing just offshore! History enthusiasts will appreciate the remnants of a World War II coastal artillery site, adding a touch of historical charm to the stunning vistas of the offshore Channel Islands.
Our campground at Emma Wood State Beach is designed for fully self-contained vehicles, offering primitive camping without the amenities of water, restrooms, electricity, or fire rings. Please note that tents are not permitted, and the campsite terrain may consist of a mix of asphalt, dirt, cobble, and ocean debris. With 90 campsites available, the maximum vehicle length allowed is 40 feet. Be mindful that high tides may cause temporary closures, and the proximity to railroad tracks and Highway 101 can contribute to ambient noise. Leashed dogs are welcome in the campground but are not allowed on the beach.
For group camping, Ventura River Group Camp is your ideal choice. Located just two freeway miles from Emma Wood State Beach, this campground offers both developed tent camping for groups of up to 30 people and primitive RV camping for groups of up to 50 people and 20 vehicles. Group sites require reservations year-round and boast facilities such as restrooms, water (no hook-ups), fire rings, tables, and a lighted parking lot. Please note that camping gear must be carried a short distance from the parking area to the campsites.
Visitors can also enjoy a day-use area with beach access, and a scenic bike path connects the park to the nearby city of Ventura and the coast highway to the north.
Before your visit, please check the latest Ocean Water Quality Advisory or contact Ventura County's Environmental Health Hotline at (805) 662-6555 for updates.

"Do not go here if you’re planning to stay overnight. There is no indication to pay for Night Use anywhere in their website so I chose Day use. The Natl Guard kicked up off and threatened to give us a citation before I could even show him the ticket I paid for. They deserve to be fired. I REPEAT. DO NOT COME HERE."
"I'll be honest. When I first pulled past the guard stand I was a bit skeptical. It was clean but desolate. HOWEVER, once you take the path to the beach or walk the trails it's a completely different experience. I literally had the beach to myself. A few people came and went through the parking lot but left without getting out of the vehicle...their mistake. It is like having your own private beach. Listening to the waves crash on the rocks was like music and the sunset made me feel bad for those landlocked on the freeway...get out there and explore you might just find a gem."
"Love the beach access. Dog friendly, restrooms. Day park $10. or free with Golden Bear Pass with picnic tables and grills!"
"Nice beach. Had tables and fire pit. The challenge is the bathrooms. The state staff would clean them and within hours Unhoused people would use the floor instead of the toilet. Gross!!!!"
"From the perspective of camping overnight, I’m bummed to say it was my least favorite camping spot. When we arrived, there was no ranger to greet us but also to oversee the campground. When we rolled in, we found a woman laying on the ground next to some bushes, so we called 911. You’re also within 50 feet from highway 101 so I’m not sure how this campsite is suitable for tent campers…"
