Since 1983, the Friends of Mt. Tam, our dedicated volunteer ambassadors, have passionately supported the park. As the official fundraising partner, we collaborate with State Park personnel to enhance your visit through education, interpretation, volunteering, and stewardship. Our programs include topical speakers, night-sky tours, and lively star parties where enthusiasts share their telescopes for an unforgettable stargazing experience.
Visit the visitor center to purchase books, shirts, caps, water bottles, and more, while learning about the park's natural resources and viewing a detailed diorama of local wildlife. Our volunteers are always on hand to provide valuable information to ensure you make the most of your adventure.
For those eager to explore, join an experienced Friends of Mt. Tam (FMT) hiker on the myriad trails winding through the park. We also offer a curated list of Loop Hikes for you to enjoy at your own pace. If you’re passionate about Mt. Tam and wish to lead hikes, consider applying to become an FMT hike leader.
Together with the Marin Municipal Water District and OneTam, we coordinate trail crews to maintain the park's extensive network of trails, preserving this natural haven for future generations.

"#1 the roads to get here are a thing on their own. Yikes. #2 worth the experience"
"Breathtaking, the view from Mt. Tam at sunset with fog covering the ocean view, was unexpectedly surreal. These are my phone pictures; what I took from my DSLR was more dynamic. Here, I am at the top of the East Peak, looking out over the Pacific and the Bay. Word to the wise: don't linger long past sunset! Being the last to leave was not super pleasant."
"Loved it! Best viewpoint in the whole Bay area. Nice short hikes that u can add to workout or just been in nature. They have a museum and all."
"Make sure you bring cash for parking and you'll be good. The hile to the top is only .3 miles. Great place to visit for some great views. The trail is fairly easy. My 4 year old daughter did it without help."
"Absolutely AMAZING views from here. This particular circular hiking path is entirely paved so it is extremely accessible for folks walking with a cane or in a wheelchair or who just want an easy hike with views for miles and miles."
