Whether you're planning a relaxing day hike or an adventurous backpacking trip, the Coastal Trail offers options for all levels of hikers. Keep in mind that permits are required for all backcountry camps, which can be conveniently obtained at the park visitor centers.
The trail is nearly continuous throughout the parks, with the only significant detour being the Highway 101 bridge over the Klamath River. With several access points and five backcountry camps within easy reach, you can tailor your adventure to suit your needs.
For those seeking a bit more excitement, the Last Chance Section of the trail allows bikes (on the trail only, not at the beach). However, please be aware that this section is occasionally impacted by landslides. We recommend checking with park rangers or visiting the current conditions page to ensure the trail is open.

"Phew, for some not seasoned hikers, it was a bit of a hike at 9 miles, but we made it. To get the beach would require more than the 9 miles as it is down the road. This trail gets you to an overlook of the ocean over some steep cliffs. It was great as we heard some people but ran across 0 people on this hike, so if you are looking for less populated, try this one. I loved the variety on this hike. It had a pond, the ocean over look, new forest and old forest, one of my favorites of my whole trip."

"Magnificent hike for intermediate skill level. The views are spectacular and the redwood trees majestic, abundant and close enough to touch. Totally underrated and exceeded my expectations. "Beautiful Road and Trailhead area. Secluded beach overlook and dirt road with primitive camping 1/2 mile hike up in birch woods with access to both the Pacific Coast and the Klamath River. Further down the road there's a couple of more public camping spots yet still remaining secluded off the main hwy which passes by more fishing campgrounds and nearby casino. This perfect all around vacation spot for hiker/camper/fisherman family. No dogs on Flint Ridge trail however they can be on the beach and road overlook."
