"This park is a great place to enjoy peace, quiet, cooler weather and no fireworks which our dogs especially appreciate. For some reason this year, 2024 there is an obvious lack of maintenance. Perhaps California is too broke to mow the tall grass, but having campers, barbeques and camp fires so close to so much tall grass seems like a bed mix. Otherwise, it's still a great location."
"Do you know what is incredible about this campground, the LOCATION.... So here are the cons : filthy Porto potty style toilets that are spread out very far from each other so they are always taken up if you have to use a toilet and its occupied good luck gettingto the next oneand good luck that it wont be occupied, ground squirrels everywhere ( and they are hangry) , there is ZERO privacy( usually when people go camping it is to GETAWAY from the world), dirty filthy and sticky picnic table was in the camp spot provided, the campground says the beach is a half mile walk( No..it is more like almost one mile one way down hill and the trail is walking alongside the road you have to traverse to get to the uphill camp...then..after you enjoy the beach...you have to walk that mile back uphill) It also feels cold and damp due to coastal climate in the evening( bring hoodie/ pants/ blankets) The PROS.. like I said..the location is amazing, sure..you have to go everywhere in your car to get to most local attractions unless you bring a bicycle...a mountain bike is highly suggested due to rough terrain. The stars can be seen in the night sky it is captivating. The beaches are gorgeous. Please be aware of ticks in the grass for the health of your children and animals. **"
"Incredible!! On top of the world!!Totally worth it ! Bathroom setup is brilliant! No smell! Clean . Super friendly staff at the gate !! Large areas ! Views are wonderful and amazing!!"
"Returned to San Simeon this year and stayed at the Washburn Campground. This is a primitive campground, which means no showers and vault toilets. There is water access throughout the campground if needed. The area is beautiful and close to a hiking trail that takes you to the beach. The campsites are fine, but not equally spacious. If you want more room, book a site on the outskirts of the campground. I stayed at site 234 which gave us an awesome little peek at the ocean. Didn't see the camp hosts much, but the ranger drove through daily. I'd definitely return."
"Stayed here 2 nights at the Hike and Bike area, on a long bike tour. Showers, restroom, water, and easy access to the ocean beach. Cell coverage not great in the campsite, but worked near the highway."
