Margaret’s Bridge Loma Prieta Grade, Aptos, CA 95003
About the Business
Welcome to Margaret’s Bridge, a serene gateway nestled in the heart of The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park, located at Loma Prieta Grade, Aptos, California. Just four miles north of Aptos on Aptos Creek Road, our park offers a tranquil escape from the bustling towns and beaches near Highway 1, Santa Cruz.
Explore the lush second- and third-growth redwood forests that rise from sea level to the steep coastal mountains, offering over 30 miles of rugged trails perfect for hiking, jogging, or biking. Whether you're picnicking near Aptos Creek or embarking on a guided hike, Margaret’s Bridge promises a refreshing retreat for nature lovers.
Please note that from mid-July 2024 through December 2024, we will be conducting a forest health and fuel reduction project along the upper portions of Aptos Creek Fire Road. This essential work will enhance forest health, improve emergency access, and prepare the area for prescribed fires, thus reducing fuel loads and boosting biodiversity. During this period, trails and roads may close occasionally for visitor safety when heavy machinery is operating nearby. However, there will be no closures on weekends, ensuring uninterrupted weekend visits.
Discover the park’s rich history, where the forest has regenerated from its clear-cut past, and witness the beauty of its recovery. Named in honor of Nisene Marks, whose family generously donated the land to the state, the park is a living testament to nature's resilience and regeneration.
For those interested in a more immersive experience, join our guided hikes and public programs by visiting our Parks Events page. We also encourage you to learn about the endangered marbled murrelet, which nests in the park, by watching our informative video available in both English and Spanish.
Please remember, our park is Crumb Clean! We have a $8 vehicle day-use fee, with discounts for seniors. Bicycles, dogs, and horses have designated trails, ensuring a harmonious experience for all visitors. While camping and fires are not permitted, our interpretive talks and volunteer opportunities offer enriching ways to engage with the park.
Join our mailing list to stay informed about events and initiatives, and consider supporting the ongoing preservation efforts by organizations like Save the Redwoods League. We look forward to welcoming you to Margaret’s Bridge, where nature’s beauty and tranquility await.
