"I was diagnosed with narcolepsy as a teenager, over 20 years ago. Before a friend recommended Dr. Meskill to me, I saw quite a few doctors, including neurologists who were not sleep specialists who had very little knowledge about the condition and "sleep specialists" who were pulmonologists for whom sleep medicine was just a small part of their practice, and I received OK care but I never felt seen or understood and they weren't always up-to-date on the latest research and treatment options. For example, I brought Xyrem up to a pulmonologist/sleep specialist and he refused to even consider prescribing it because he thought it was too extreme and stimulants should be sufficient.
