"I don’t believe this was the best choice for my daughter at all. They are NOT meant to treat suicidal thoughts or people who are self harming. Maybe more appropriate for addiction treatment but not mental health issues. They also allowed a student intern to question my daughter for almost a month and half before giving her a diagnosis, a diagnosis that I didn’t agree with and neither did my daughter. This was a trigger for her and when I questioned the facility how they could agree to such a diagnosis which was chemically induced, when she had negative drug screens they acted like they had never heard of someone not agreeing to their diagnosis which was made by a student intern I might add! There was little to no interaction with staff,I would call leave messages and ask questions no return calls. The only time the psychiatrist phoned was to tell me she was going to have my daughter court ordered to be admitted to state hospital because they couldn’t provide the care she needed. When I was able to ask her therapist about this she let me know they do NOT do that because it would take a full day of her time being in a court room trying to get this done and she did this at her last job and wouldn’t be doing it here. I was somewhat confused by the conversation with the psychiatrist that me and my family spoke to and now her information that this would NOT be done. I was then told my daughter needed to go somewhere else and it was just up to me to be the discharge planner. My daughter was suicidal and After I bought a ticket to fly her somewhere else, she was picked up from the facility less than an hour before her flight missing her flight, then was at 2 different airports on stand by during a hurricane in Florida(the state she was going to) and then I find out she only had $30 in her pocket given to her by another patient! She was in the airport for almost 24 hours, and had only one meal (sandwich and drink) Not one person from this facility called to see if she made it or if she was still stuck in the airport . I feel I let her down sending her here and that she might have actually got the help she needed elsewhere. If you don’t fight for your loved one nobody else will either. I feel they only kept her to keep drawing her insurance money, they provided little if any information to the new facility and they are the discharge planners not the family no matter what the counselor tells you. That is THEIR job! Any health care professional knows this myself included!"
"Back in January of this year 2024 I was sent to pine grove by my school due to them finding out I was having suicidal thoughts and had mental health issues and I can not express how grateful and changed I feel , i was in the children’s/Adolescent facility for 7 days , the food was amazing and the other patients and staff were extremely kind , helpful , patient , and understanding , and if a time in my life or other people’s life’s was a really hard place to be in and struggling to maintain mental/physical/overall health I Absolutely recommend going to pine grove , there’s no shame in asking for help , no matter what age we all deserve help , thank you all staff at pine grove"
"I took my 14 year old son in for an assesmment at Pine Grove in Hattiesburg, MS after he stated (more than once) that he wanted to harm himself and that he wanted to die. We waited in the lobby for about 30-45 minutes after completing paperwork. No big deal. We were called back for the assessment and then waited for what felt like an eternity to hear the disposition from the physician. The woman who did the assessment (I won't name names), came in and asked me "if it is recommended that he be admitted, would you be able to stay with him". I of course asked some follow up questions: "why would I need to stay with him?" "How long would I need to stay?" Etcetera, etcetera. As a mental health professional myself, I had never heard of a parent being asked to stay with their teenage son for inpatient treatment. She left the room and came back in about 15-20 minutes later with the disposition from the physician. The physician's recommendations were that he be admitted for inpatient treatment. She again asked if I could stay with him. I told her that it would take some time to arrange that because I have 4 other children at home, including a 16 year old that works (I am her means of transportation to and from work, as she doesnt get her license till later in the year) and a 9, 6, and 1 year old who have to be transported to and from babysitters each day. Not to mention my full time job that I would need to request off from and the fact that my husband works 50-70 hours a week and leaves for work at 3am and doesn't get home till 5 to 6 at night on some nights. She told me that she could give me a few minutes to get things situated. That is not something that can be situated in a few minutes. I also live an hour away from the facility and had zero items for a few days stay. They refused to admit him because I couldn't stay with him for 3 days. Their reasoning for requesting that I stay is because he had never been to that facility and they didn't have rapor with him. So, tell me this, when in the history of ever has any human saught treatment at a new facility ever had an established rapor with said staff? That's right, never! It's called building rapor with new clients. It's what therapist and other medical professionals, myself included, do every time they meet a new client. Feeling that it was a huge liability, I asked for documentation stating that it was recommended that my son be admitted and they were refusing to admit due to me not being able to stay with him. THEY REFUSED TO GIVE ME DOCUMENTATION. All they gave me was a list of other facilities that I can take him to and an excuse for work. I have my reasons for not taking him the two facilities that are a lot closer to my home. I'm frustrated. I'm appalled at the fact that they would turn away a child who has voiced suicidal ideation several times in the past 24 hours and a history of self harming behaviors. Apparently this is their policy (which no one that I've spoken to has ever heard of before), so if your child has never been here and you aren't prepared to stay with your them a few days, I would highly suggest going elsewhere. If I could give 0 stars, I most certainly would."
"I admitted my daughter to Pine Grove 3 times in the past six months. The first time they kept her 5 days and gave her a medicine that didn't help at all, in fact made her worse. The second time they let her come home after 3 days with no changes because she cried and wanted to go home. The third time they turned her out after 2 days when she got a stomach bug. They did not take our concerns seriously and she has gotten progressively worse and never received satisfactory care or help at any time. Only positive is the nursing and tech staff are friendly and kind to children but aren't able to help much because care plan rests on the horrible doctors and therapists that don't do anything to improve the situation."
"Life saving! Extremely competent staff who all seemed very passionate, without exceptions. All therapists were extraordinary & cared for patients in a very customized way. All needs were met & any “selfish wants” were vetted with seriousness & with the utmost sincerity. Don’t think, this place is special!"
