One dealership offered me $10K and the other $15K less than what I received from Car Max. Ask for Joe B and say Joe P sent you."

"After doing a lot of research I decided to go with CarMax for my used car purchase. I was so sick of dealing with all the slimy car dealerships. This is not a game, I was spending over $40,000 and I work very hard for my money. So I ordered a car that seemed to be right for my family. After waiting a few days it arrived. I was hopeful that it would be great due to all the reviews and hype that CarMax boasts of having great quality cars. Upon inspection of the car it was obvious that it was painted. And what a terrible paint job. Also, part of the bumber was missing and it had a horrible smell. Carmax returned my money for ordering the car so that was nice of them. But niceness doesn’t sell cars. Honesty, fair pricing and a quality vehicle does that. Back to the drawing board."

"Overall, pretty good experience. On the pro side, they gave me a fair price for my trade-in and a fair price for the vehicle I purchased. Both could probably have been better, but it would have required a lot of time and hassle. I think the website is pretty good with lots of information to evaluate and compare vehicles. I had the vehicle delivered from another location which worked out fine, but it made me a little nervous since you have to pay for that upfront without seeing the vehicle. The reps I dealt with were decent to deal with, knowledgeable and didn't pressure the options that were offered. On the con side, they weren't always on time for appointments, I waited almost a half hour the first time. The actual process to trade in and purchase took a long time, hour and a half to 2 hours! Finally, the vehicle was as advertised, but was not professionally cleaned, which was a little disappointing. Again, not a perfect experience, but definitely OK."
