"Stopped to get lottery ticket man very nice."
"My wife and I were in Pensacola for dinner and we wanted to play Lotto. My wife did a quick search for the store with the most local Lotto winnings which led us to Happy Jacks. This store can only be described as “Hoodtastic!” and I mean that with all love and affection. As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted by the sound of loud rap music. My wife raised her voice above the loud yet dulcet tones of whichever street prophet was bemoaning his place in life on the stereo to ask where the Lotto cards were and the nice man behind the counter promptly directed us to the back of the store. A wave of nostalgia crashed over me as we strolled by the large cooler filled to the brim with tall boys of every variety and enough malt liquor to “feed the needy”. Above the cooler was a wide variety of flat brim hats. To the right I noted classics such as Mad Dog 20/20 and Wild Irish Rose readily available at hand on the shelf. We arrived at the back of the store and while my wife was filling out her Powerball card, I noted the back wall which was covered in packaged white T shirts in sizes up to 6XL. While I patiently waited for my wife to finish the task at hand, I soaked up the ambiance. Someone’s Auntie was making loud casual conversation with the previously mentioned nice young man behind the counter and everyone that walked in or out of the store. It was almost as though Auntie, the nice young man and the street prophet were a trio, “spittin’ a few bars” to enlighten, educate and entertain all that we’re fortunate enough to experience this place at this time. Eventually, my wife completed her task and we made our way to the front of the store. My wife completed her Lotto transaction while Auntie and I held a brief conversation about the state of today’s youth and their penchant for all things material. We didn’t solve any social issues but it was a moment all the same. Before I wrote this, I read some of the other critiques posted and the overall consensus was that Happy Jacks was a great local store employed and owned by friendly folks. I would offer that Happy Jacks is more than a place to grab some Lotto and a 40, it’s a community market in every sense of the words. In this day and age of the sterilized Costco, Walmart and Publix shopping experiences, I offer that Happy Jacks is a destination harkening back to a day when life may not have always been pretty but it sure seemed simpler. Go to Happy Jacks, not for the malt liquor, the T shirts or the potential life changing winnings. Go because life is short yet full of unexpected wondrous experiences that you won’t find those on any grocery shelf."
"Happy Jack's is a nice gas station with a pretty wide range of products. I would say they have triple the variety offered at other stores. Out side the gas station itself, is a little red Mexican food vendor with nicely arranged outside seating. It's my favorite place to go on lunch due to the quality and variety of both th food vendors and the store itself."
