"3/9/2022 Today my faithful dog, Odin and I hiked the Star Field Trail near Cooperstown NY! Just as we got out of our sedan it began to snow..32 degrees… Perfect Weather really..however l, the only reason for the 4 star rating today was that the trail was a mix of hard crusty snow and sheer ICE… i wore Cleats and still did alot of sliding and “ice tap dancing”!and there were some fallen tree branches along on the trail.. but nothing you could NOT navigate around.. It took us about 45 min to finally get to the field.. not too bad tyme, really! No other people out tackling that trail today….so it was quiet /peaceful ! The 3 stone cairns mid field were surrounded by water…but we easily got over and up close to them by hopping on raised grass clumps…but I recommend, if you go at this tyme, WEAR BOOTS & CLEATS..you ll need them! and take your tyme..and enjoy the scenery! The snow was coming down pretty hard as we left…so we left without getting any great scenery pic! AND NO WAY WERE WE GOING TO EVEN TRY TO GO TO NATTY BUMMPOS CAVE.. that definitely would have ended up with a 911 call! VERY NICE PLACE! Going back in spring! ❤️"
"This trail is a "there and back" trail of 1.7 miles each way for a total of a little over three miles. If you add a walk around the meadow at the end, that's an additional mile for a total of a little more than four miles. The view from Star Field is amazing. It looks across Lake Otsego toward the Leatherstocking Golf Course and The Farmers Museum. The trail is maintained, but not officially, and you hike at your own risk. Be prepared to hike up and down inclines, but nothing too steep. There may be short muddy parts, but just follow the tracks of other hikers for the best routes around them.
