"I had a bad experience with this agency and have told friends to be wary of them. Even though the Keller-Williams commission is higher than that of other agencies, I chose them because of their good visibility and historically high volume of sales in my neighborhood, Sherman Park. I was leaving the state and hoping to sell quickly and cleanly. Indeed, my house sold quickly, and for an acceptable price. However, when my agent first presented competing offers to me, and I was unsure how to proceed, he said he would go ahead and give me the 1% discount on commission that they normally grant for sales within the agency, even though the offers on the table were from outside agencies. I was surprised and pleased, and I thanked him. I told my family that the agent had offered this, and we all agreed that it was a generous gesture. It did not occur to me to ask him to put his discount offer in writing, any more than I would have asked him to document other details of the deals he was proposing. I had a friendly and trusting rapport with the agent, and things move quickly at this stage. I arranged to pre-sign the closing documents before leaving town. The discount--which would have been $1,850--did not show up, and my attorney said she knew nothing about it. I contacted my agent, and he flat-out denied having made the offer. I was astonished and disgusted. I could not believe such a high profile agent would do something like this. My only guess it that he had made this offer to nudge me into resolving the sale quickly. To add salt to the wound, the week following my closing, I received one of those marketing emails that are sent to all customers. It was inviting customers to an open bar reception at Heritage Hill. My first thought was how tacky it was to be sent a peppy marketing email when I had had a bad experience just days prior. My second thought was that my $1,850 was paying for those drinks!"
