"My nine year old grandson just returned from a week at Peconic Dunes 4H camp. It was his first time away from home. He had a fabulous time and can’t wait to go back next year. He learned new skills including archery, kayaking, fishing (he caught a fish) and most importantly self confidence and independence. He enjoyed sharing meals with his new friends, under the tent where they always had choices. Thank you Peconic Dunes for this wonderful experience."
"Just picked my son up and the camp has had a seemingly large decline in recent years. There were bugs in the food, overly aggressive counselors (multiple reports of counselors pushing kids and/or bad mouthing campers to one another), fights (one of our sons friends left with a fat lip and another was attacked with a lacrosse stick), the facilities were not clean (feces and urine on floor of bathroom, toilets that had not been cleaned and showers with bug infestations). They only got to swim 1 day, basketball court was closed, kayaks that sunk and fishing docks covered in bird droppings. I was surprised at how inexpensive the camp was but I now understand why."
"These are throwback stars ; ) Spent a week at this camp each summer starting when I was 8 SO MUCH FUN. Looked forward to it every year The counselors were fantastic... Endless stuff to do. We had a blast in the dining hall chanting & singing at meals... The beach on the sound is just footsteps away... there's a huge pond on the property... Sports... Nature trails... you name it. It was run by SCOPE back then... I hope 4-H is keeping it going with the same level of care and creativity. Drove by there today and the gates were shut, but it looked pretty much the same from the road. Hoping to go back and take a walk through the place and see how it looks these days."
"Even though I only went to this camp for one summer I still enjoyed my 3 weeks there. I was such a sky and timid kid but i feel like this place really helped my social skills. The kids for the most part are mature and nice and I never witnessed anyone getting bullied here. Some of the counselors were really rude but there were still a lot of nice ones. The activites were a lot of fun and the beds were actually pretty comfortable. I really wish I could have come again. It was a good time"
"It was great! The weeks I was there I had lots of fun, and made some new friends. I highly recommend this camp, and love it! It's so much fun, and it is a great adventure every summer. I love it there, and I know you will too! There is always something for everyone, and it's how I started and ended my summer (Weeks 1,2,7, and 8) and will come those weeks again. See you there!!!!!"
