"SAD but TRUE... at age 64, These are the memories I still recall growing up in this church in the 1960s. The pastor Juan Delgado was a bully preacher! The church ruled people's lives and dictated when and how long you had to stay during the services. I recall one Sunday when my father told my mom when to be home from church by. I don't recall the reason why! Well, the service as usual ran long... usually until the pastor was tired of preaching basically the same fire and brimstone condemnation message over and over again. My dear mother Carmen Nelson motioned for my brother and I while she held our baby sister, it was time to leave. Once we approached the doors to exit, Pastor Juan Delgado yelled out loud from the pulpit advising the ushers to stop and prevent my mother and my siblings from leaving. Unfortunately, Juan Delgado did not understand the verbal and physical abuse my mother would face from my father if we were not home in time. Needless to say, my poor mother suffered from abuse from both the church that should have been a place of peace and refuge from the world and from our father. My poor mother literally had to fight our way out of the church in order to adhere to my father's request to be home by the time he requested. After having to fight our way out from the hands of the ushers, My dear mother wept all the way home regarding the treatment we received trying to leave early. She spoke about never returning back to that church. However, we of course returned right back again the next week. My poor mother was ruled by the fear of the church as well as the fear from my father. That's just one story! My overall impression then and now, 53 years later is that Pastor Juan Delgado was religious dictator and tyrant who somehow kept his congregation in line. Looking back now, it appears people must have stayed out of fear and retribution living in at the time a close knit Puerto Rican community. An hispanic community Where everyone knew everyone... and easily seen in every day life as everyone walked everywhere and was always visible at that time and era. As a child, I recall it was always a sure bet we would run into someone from the church while out shopping and running errands. One memory I do recall was when going to the restroom during service and accidentally encountering his son Juan Delgado jr. in the downstairs mens restroom snorting drugs! An act that befuddled me as to the behavior of the pastor's own flesh and blood doing the unthinkable while his father preached condemnation for sins. It's unfortunate the memories that keep coming back when I think about this church. Memories from a church that ruled with fear and quick to condemn, as well as the strict unbendable guidelines that the Pentecostal Church held church members to. Fortunately my siblings and I were able to leave the church due to my mother's early unfortunate death at age 34 from a brain hemorrhage in December of 1969. I never returned back to this church nor any other Spanish Pentecostal church. I could not fathom ever having a church have so much control of my mind. Nor have I been a long time member of any church that I felt took away from Jesus Christs simple message in order to have eternal salvation. A simple message where organized religion have each come up with their way was the only way to salvation! I never lost my beliefs in Christ Jesus as my personal savior. And that's who I pray too and worship with when in my time of solace and meditation. My personal beliefs will always be in Jesus Christ and God the father than to adhere to a Church denomination's rules, guidelines, and demands to be a member and abide by their views and doctrines in order to receive eternal salvation!"
"This church is where I was raised since I was a 7 year old. It's always a pleasure to come back to visit."
"The old church was great, spent my entire childhood in royal rangers and classes. Love the previous pastor Roman. The church was alive and well before moving . And even after moving around NYC my Mom still manage to take us there a few more times, was still lively as ever. My mother still has the red lighthouses that kept the anointing oil, it was given to us by the church before we left NYC. I believe I was only 11 years old when I left for Florida. EDIT: I wrote a previous statement that, back when posted held true. I allowed nostalgia to get in the way of my feeling for this place. Now I can honestly say I no longer feel the same way. I can no longer keep that opinion since the church has changed. This church has direction now, and the holy spirit has not let go of it since then. I'm currently waiting on the Lord to see where this is taking us, but i have faith its somewhere great, I'm looking forward to it."
"MOST LOVED, POWERFUL & ANOINTED, HISPANIC PENTECOSTAL CHURCH in SUNSET.... WHEN it was UNDER the PASTORIAL of REV. ANGEL LUIS ROMAN. I WITNESSED the GLORY of GOD moving in a MIGHTY way. I saw THE LOST being SAVED, THE SICK getting HEALED, THE CAPTIVE being SET FREE, & WHERE I GREW SPIRITUALLY and FOUGHT the good FIGHT because it was my BATTLE FIELD. I have to say I'll ALWAYS LOVE this CHURCH it's in MY BLOOD. I'll also like to CONGRATULATE The "NEW PASTOR" being install to the CHURCH on DEC 1, 2018 * Pastor LEONARDO MATEO* May GOD GUIDE you Give you WISDOM & DISCERNMENT & May YOU be a GREAT BLESSING to MY CHURCH 320."
"Whoever, is Daniel Barrazo I rebuke you in the name of Jesus . The fire is in a person so based on your review . I guess your encounter with God is zero .This church is full with people who are knowledgeable about the fruits of God . I am a new member and based on my encounter with God I haven’t seen what you have posted . God is everywhere and it doesn’t matter how many members are in the church God is here . I love this church and will like to help the ministry preach and branch out to the community . My church is the best!!!"
