About the Business
Welcome to the official website of New York City Council Member Alexa Avilés, proudly serving the 38th District of Brooklyn. Our district encompasses vibrant neighborhoods such as Red Hook, and parts of Gowanus, Park Slope, Sunset Park, Borough Park, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, and Bath Beach. Located at 4417 4th Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, our local government office is dedicated to addressing the needs and concerns of our diverse community.
Council Member Alexa Avilés, a passionate Boricua mom, Brooklynite, and democratic socialist, is committed to public service and ensuring that all residents have the resources they need to thrive. Now in her second term, she serves as the Chair of the Committee on Immigration and is actively involved in several other key committees, including Economic Development, Public Housing, Housing and Buildings, General Welfare, Environmental Protections, Resiliency and Waterfronts, as well as the Council’s Taskforce to Combat Hate.
Throughout her tenure, Council Member Avilés has been a tireless advocate for equity and justice, particularly for working-class communities in South Brooklyn. She has successfully passed numerous pieces of legislation aimed at reducing cruise ship pollution and truck congestion in Red Hook, enhancing transparency in NYCHA management, and regulating NYPD civilian interactions. Her dedication to budget justice has also secured millions for essential park and school improvements, while staunchly opposing detrimental cuts to vital services.
Our office is here to serve you and is conveniently located at New York City Hall, with additional offices at 250 Broadway and within each district. We invite you to reach out with any questions, concerns, or suggestions you may have. Together, let's continue to build a stronger, more equitable Brooklyn.
